What you can trade in
PCs and the parts people usually replace first. Not sure yours qualifies? Start a quote and check.
-
Desktops and gaming PCs
Complete systems, from first builds to high-end rigs. Often the simplest route into a new build.
-
Graphics cards
The most common first upgrade.
-
Processors
Worth raising when you're changing platform.
-
Memory
DDR4 and DDR5 kits.
-
Storage drives
NVMe and SATA SSDs, plus hard drives.
-
Laptops and more
Other devices may qualify too. SELLIT9's current accepted list is shown when you start your quote.
What affects your trade-in value
No two trade-ins are the same. These are the things that move the number.
- Model and generation
- Newer parts hold their value better. A recent graphics card is worth far more than one from two generations back.
- Condition
- Whether it works properly comes first, then cosmetic wear.
- What comes with it
- The original box, cables, brackets and manuals all help.
- The market on the day
- Used prices follow supply and demand, so values shift over time.

Trade in or sell it yourself?
Both are reasonable. Here is the honest difference.
| What we compare | Trade in with OrdinaryTech | Sell it yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Effort | Get a quote, send or hand over your device, and we handle the rest. | Photos, listings, messages, haggling and meetups. |
| Speed | Quote first, then inspection, then the value goes toward your order. | Depends on finding a buyer. Can take days or weeks. |
| Payout | Value applied toward your upgrade or new build. | Cash, and possibly a higher figure if you can wait for the right buyer. |
| Risk | Low. One partner platform, and you see your quote before you commit. | Time-wasters, no-shows and payment scams can come with marketplace sales. |
Neither is wrong. If you'd rather list it yourself, we'll still tell you honestly what the upgrade is worth.
Replacing a whole team's machines?
Send us the list and quantities. We'll tell you what's worth trading in and what isn't, and spec the replacements to match.
Trade-in FAQ
How does the trade-in program work?
We've partnered with SELLIT9, a Canadian tech trade-in platform. You get a quote from SELLIT9, send or hand over your device, and once it's inspected the value goes toward your upgrade or new OrdinaryTech build.
What can I trade in?
PCs and PC parts such as graphics cards, processors, memory and storage, plus other devices on SELLIT9's current accepted list. The list is shown when you start your quote.
How is my trade-in value decided?
By model, generation, condition and the current market for used devices. Your quote is based on what you select, and the final value is confirmed after inspection.
When should I get my quote?
Before you order, so you know what the trade-in is worth toward your build.
How do I send or hand over my device?
The collection options are shown with your quote. Choose the one that suits you.
What should I do about my data?
Back up anything you want to keep and sign out of your accounts. You can wipe the drive yourself, or ask us how. If you're upgrading with us, data migration is available so your files move to the new system.
Should I upgrade my PC or build a new one?
It depends on the platform. If your processor and motherboard are recent and the power supply has headroom, a graphics card (GPU) upgrade is often enough. If the platform is several generations old, a new build usually gives you more for the money. We'll give you the honest answer for your machine, even when that means spending less with us.
Does trading in change my warranty?
No. Your new build carries our standard 2-year parts and labour warranty with lifetime technical support.
